Pine Island is located on the banks of the Zumbro River, and was a favorite spot for the Dakota Indians. First settled in 1855, the village was incorporated in 1878.
The city of Pine Island is located on US Highway 52, about 10 miles north of Rochester, home of the world famous Mayo Clinic.
