Southwest Minnesota State University (SMSU), established in 1964, is a public institution located in Marshall, Minnesota. As part of the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities system, SMSU offers a high-quality education in the liberal arts and professions, preparing students for successful personal and professional lives. The university provides over 60 undergraduate majors and several graduate programs, including master's degrees in education and business administration. These programs are housed within two primary colleges: the College of Arts, Letters, and Sciences, and the College of Business, Education, and Professional Studies. 

The Southwest Teacher Preparation Partnership provides Scholarship funding to students residing in the Nobles County Integration Collaborative areas that may cover all expenses to become a licensed educator such as tuition and books. Students begin at Minnesota West, transfer to the Southwest Minnesota State Univeristy, and then fill open positions in Worthington and NCIC schools.

The University of St. Thomas, located in St. Paul, Minnesota, is the state's largest private university, serving over 9,000 undergraduate and graduate students. Founded in 1885, it has grown to encompass eight schools and colleges, offering a diverse range of programs.
