Position Summary
Join our student internship program and embark on a journey to become a skilled John Deere Service Technician. You will participate in on-the-job training while pursuing a two-year Diesel Technician associate degree program, focusing on fundamental concepts essential for effective service technician roles. This opportunity includes paid tuition (or tuition reimbursement), fees, books, and/or tool allowance. Dealer sponsorship is required.
Job Responsibilities
- Engage in two years of instructor-led classroom and lab training.
- Complete a minimum of two internships at the dealership.
- Obtain certification in Electrical, Hydraulics, and Service Advisor training.
- Fulfill the required number of John Deere University credits.
- Adhere to safety rules and regulations during work assignments.
- Complete all necessary reports and forms related to job assignments.
- Assist senior technicians as required and perform basic service tasks.
- Maintain a clean and orderly work area.
- Account for all time and materials used in assigned duties.
- Develop skills in component removal, disassembly, and reconditioning.
- Conduct pre-delivery set-up and inspection on new equipment.
Qualifications
- Maintain a minimum 2.7 GPA.
- Interest in learning repair methods, materials, tools, and techniques for outdoor power equipment/agricultural machinery.
- Fundamental knowledge of engines, hydraulics, powertrains, air-conditioning, and electrical systems relevant to dealership machines.
- Effective communication skills with customers and fellow employees.
- Ability to lift at least 25 lbs. repeatedly.
- Willingness to learn and demonstrate a strong work ethic.
- High School Diploma or equivalent experience required.
- Valid driver’s license required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Forklift license preferred.
Performance Expectations
- Achieve a minimum 50% labor performance.
- Work a minimum of 30 hours per week alongside a mentor.
- Dedicate a minimum of 4 hours per week to self-training.
- Engage in Parts Advisor, Service Advisor, and Ag Sales manual training.
