Schmit Insurance is an independent insurance agency based in Winona, Minnesota, providing personal, commercial, farm, life, health, and employee benefits insurance. Agency staff work closely with clients to evaluate risks, explain coverage options, prepare insurance policies, and provide ongoing customer support.
During this educator externship, the participant will job shadow agency staff to observe how English language arts and mathematics are applied in a professional business setting. The experience includes observing video presentations used to explain insurance coverage, reviewing policy generation, learning how sales goals and commission structures function, and understanding how customer information is documented and communicated.
The experience will help connect classroom instruction to authentic workplace applications by demonstrating how reading, writing, speaking, presentation skills, algebra, financial literacy, and data analysis support successful careers in the insurance industry.
