Heliene is a Canadian solar photovoltaic (PV) module manufacturer with a significant presence in Mountain Iron, Minnesota. Established in 2018, the Mountain Iron facility began with a 150-megawatt (MW) production line. In 2023, Heliene invested $10 million to double this line's capacity to 300 MW, enabling the production of advanced TOPCon solar modules and creating over 130 new jobs in the region. This expansion complements a 500 MW line added in 2022, making the Mountain Iron plant one of the largest crystalline silicon solar panel manufacturing facilities in the United States.
Beyond Mountain Iron, Heliene is expanding its U.S. operations. In 2024, the company secured a $54 million investment to construct a new 550 MW solar module factory in Rogers, Minnesota, aiming to boost its total U.S. output to approximately 1,500 MW. Additionally, Heliene has partnered with India's Premier Energies to establish a 1-gigawatt solar cell manufacturing facility in Minneapolis, expected to commence production by mid-2026. These initiatives align with the company's strategy to enhance domestic manufacturing capabilities and meet the growing demand for U.S.-made solar components.
