Try a Trade: High School Edition

Curious about a career in the skilled trades? Spend a week this summer rolling up your sleeves and discovering what it’s really like to work in some of today’s most in-demand fields. Try a Trade: High School Edition is an immersive, hands-on summer opportunity designed for students ages 15 and older who want to explore high-paying, high-skill career pathways. Each day students will dive into the fundamentals of a different trade, learning directly from experienced instructors in real lab environments.
Participants will spend one full day in each of the following areas:
• Welding – Learn safety, equipment basics, and try your hand at foundational welds.
• Carpentry – Explore measuring, cutting, framing, and essential building techniques.
• Automotive Technology – Get under the hood with basic diagnostics and maintenance skills.
• Plumbing & HVAC – Understand piping systems, tools, and core installation concepts. Discover heating, ventilation, and air conditioning fundamentals and system components.
This is perfect for students who enjoy working with their hands, solving problems, and seeing tangible results from their efforts. No prior experience is necessary—just curiosity and a willingness to learn.
In partnership with the Women’s Foundation, we are proud to offer free registration for women and gender non-conforming students, helping create greater access and representation in the skilled trades. If that applies to you, enter promo code WELCOME when you check out.
This will be held at the Heintz Center, where students will train in industry-equipped labs and classrooms. Spots are limited and expected to fill quickly.
