2024 La Crosse Education Fair – La Crosse Expo Center

September 30 @ 9:00 am - 1:30 pm

Free

Wisconsin Education Fairs is excited to offer Wisconsin wide College Fairs. Students, families, and school counselors will have access to over 100 colleges, universities, military branches, and specialty schools. Chat with representatives, meet other students and narrow down your college search.

Wisconsin Education Fairs provide easy access to information about postsecondary options on a timely basis for all Wisconsin citizens, regardless of geographic location.

WEF includes in its participant list all UW state universities and centers, Wisconsin’s independent colleges and universities, Wisconsin technical colleges, and many out-of-state institutions. In addition, many community colleges, trade schools, and the national service organizations, such as the armed forces are represented

Don’t know where to start? Consider the following before attending an Education Fair:

  • What are your career goals?
  • How far from home are you willing and able to go?
  • What size campus would you strive in?
  • Will financial aid and scholarships be available?

Next while at the fair. Use your time wisely by showing demonstrated interest….meaning, go up to a school you are interested in and bring a list of questions to ask booth representatives.

Consider asking some of these:

  • Tell me about your most popular programs. What makes them so popular?
  • What are your application deadlines and how much to apply?
  • What do students like most about your school?
  • What is the biggest complaint from current students?
  • What kinds of students are happiest at your school?
  • What is your admission criteria?
  • Tell me about your campus location.
  • How does your career planning department compare to other colleges/universities?
  • Can you give me the names of a few students whom I could talk to about their experience at your school?
  • What is the average total cost—including tuition and fees, books and supplies, room and board, and other estimated expenses—for the first year?
  • What percentage of students graduate with debt?
  • What is the average amount of student loan debt for graduates?
  • Are there on-campus work opportunities for work-study students? What if I don’t quality for a work-study job?
  • If I am awarded a grant, can I expect it to remain constant all four years (assuming my financial circumstances don’t change)?

All the representatives are excited to chat and meet with you. It can be a little awkward on where to start if you’re not prepared for the fair. Hope this helps get you pointed in the right direction.
