At Southwestern Center for Independent Living, or SWCIL, we provide a variety of services to individuals with a disability. We are not a service provider, but we work with individuals with a disability to give them the tools that they need to become more independent. For each person that will look different. Our services are consumer based so it is up to the person receiving services to work on the skills that they want to work on. We do not require documentation of a disability; it is self-reported. We meet with people wherever they are most comfortable, it can be in school, at a public setting such as the library, in their home, or at our office.
We do have an assistive technology program where individuals can check out a device and use it for 30 days to see if it is what they are looking for prior to making the purchase. We can assist with finding the correct device, learning how to use it, and where to order it from.
We have a ramp program where we complete an assessment and build a ramp for them. This program does have a fee associated with it, based on the estimate. We have a ramp rental program where people can rent temporary ramps on a monthly basis.
We also provide CDCS Support Planner services where we assist consumers on County Waiver programs to create the Certified Support Plans to allow for choice in providing services and flexibility with their choices in services that they receive.
We provide our services to 10 counties in Southwestern Minnesota. The counties that we serve are Cottonwood, Jackson, Lincon, Lyon, Murray, Nobles, Pipestone, Redwood, Rock, and Yellow Medicine.
