3M is a global innovation company that never stops inventing. Over the years, we have worked to improve daily life for hundreds of millions of people all over the world. We have made driving at night easier, made buildings safer, and made consumer electronics lighter, less energy-intensive and less harmful to the environment. We even helped put a man on the moon.
Every day at 3M, one idea always leads to the next, igniting momentum to make progress possible around the world.
The 3M New Ulm Plant is a diversified manufacturing operation that provides products for a wide variety of markets and customers. Our customers value our responsiveness to their needs and the quality we build into every product. We do this with a highly skilled and dedicated workforce that continuously seeks out opportunities to grow and make improvements.
3M began operations in New Ulm when it purchased a 33,000 sq. ft. building on 60 acres in 1962. The first production line at this site made electrical connectors.
Over the years, we have constructed several additions to the facility and product lines have come and gone. Some of the products with a history in New Ulm (but no longer produced here) include copy machines, medical MRI imagers, medical bone saws and infusion pumps, audio and video tape recorders, and powdered epoxy resins.
