A Curious Place for Discovery!
Are you ready for a summer of discovery? Are you entering grade 11 or 12, or are you graduating high school
with the class of 2026? The Hormel Institute’s High School Summer Research Scholars will show you what
the world of biomedical research really looks like. Over eight weeks, you’ll be immersed in the work where
treatments and cures begin.
Program Structure:
• Learn the basics of carrying out everyday lab tasks
• Participate in research observation, data analysis, and literature review
• Complete a comprehensive research portfolio to document your growth
• Participate in professional development sessions (research ethics, career pathways, etc.)
• Attend and present at research symposiums
• Lab safety training
• Opportunity to present a research poster.
Program Benefits:
• $3,000 stipend*
• 25 hours per week
• In-person, onsite program
• Cohort size of 3–4 students for individualized attention
Eligibility:
• High school students entering grades 11–12, class of 2026 high school graduates
• 3.5 GPA or higher
• Interest in research/STEM related careers
• Completion of a biology course with interest in additional related courses
• Demonstrated academic readiness, curiosity, and a commitment to biomedical science
• Demonstrated maturity and ability to follow safety rules and complianc regulations
• Letter of recommendation from a science or mathematics instructor
• A curious mind
